Cherry Creek Encampment

SCOPE OF WORK

The Cheyenne County Historical Society partnered with JZ Studio to design and develop a historically rich and visually engaging sign for the Cherry Creek Encampment Historical Marker. The new signage, installed directly on-site, provides visitors with a detailed background story, sharing the historical significance of the encampment within the broader context of the Plains conflicts involving settlers and the Cheyenne Native Americans.

The project was a highly collaborative effort between JZ Studio and the Historical Society team. Each element of the sign, from photographs to custom icon markers, was carefully selected and reviewed to ensure accuracy and respectful representation. Every photo, icon, and layout detail was shared through each step of the design process, underscoring the dedication to authentically capturing and portraying the site’s history.

The goal of this project was to create an informative and approachable resource for visitors interested in learning about the region’s complex past. The layout and content of the signage were thoughtfully designed to present an honest narrative of the events that took place here, helping visitors appreciate the location’s significance and its ties to the wider story of Plains battles.

Additionally, custom icon markers and a detailed map were developed to help guide visitors through the broader narrative associated with the site and its surroundings. JZ Studio took special care to ensure that each design decision reinforced the Historical Society’s commitment to educational accuracy. For instance, one of the images included in the sign had to undergo specific approval, emphasizing the importance of factual representation throughout the design.

Ultimately, this project aimed to leave a lasting impact on visitors by providing a thorough and engaging way to connect with the region’s history. Through this design, the Cherry Creek Encampment serves as a focal point for understanding the historical landscape of the Plains and the significant events that unfolded here.
